This monument watches over the ill named Pacific Ocean commemorating the spot that 38 souls perished during a shipwreck in 1860. A steamer name "Northerner" suffered hull damage and was unable to make it all the way to shore before a building storm took it under. The monument itself has suffered the power of the northern California coast as it used to stand high on the bluffs until erosion and earthquakes required a move to its current home. I felt the perspective of this image captured both the magnitude of the landscape and the event with a solemn sense of peacefulness.
